‘थेंगफाखरी तहसीलदार की ताँबेवाली तलवार’ उन्नीसवीं सदी के उत्तरार्द्ध में असम में बसी बोडो जनजाति की प्रथम महिला स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और ब्रिटिशकालीन भारत की पहली महिला तहसीलदार थेंगफाखरी के जीवन पर आधारित उपन्यास है। इन्दिरा गोस्वामी ने भारत के पूर्वोत्तर अंचल में प्रचलित जनश्रुतियों और उपलब्ध ऐतिहासिक साक्ष्यों के आधार पर, थेंगफाखरी के गुमनाम हो चुके असाधारण व्यक्तित्व को साकार किया है। जब असम में सामाजिक-राजनीतिक स्तर पर एक अस्पष्टता व्याप्त थी और अलग बोडोलैंड के लिए ‘डिवाइड असम फिफ्टी-फिफ्टी’ का नारा गूँज रहा था, वैसे समय में इन्दिरा ने यह उपन्यास लिखकर असमिया और बोडो संस्कृतियों और भाषाओं के मध्य प्रशंसनीय सेतुबन्धन किया। यह उपन्यास थेंगफाखरी के अदम्य साहस और भारतीय स्वाधीनता आन्दोलन में निचले असम के बिजनी राज्य के महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान से परिचित कराता है। औपनिवेशिक शासन के दौरान थेंगफाखरी का तहसीलदार के पद पर नियुक्त होना जहाँ महिला सशक्तीकरण की मिसाल पेश करता है, वहीं अंग्रेज़ों के विरुद्ध क्रान्तिकारी के रूप में थेंगफाखरी के रूपान्तरण से ब्रिटिश शासन की दमनकारी नीतियों का पर्दाफ़ाश भी करता है। उपन्यास में औपनिवेशिक शासन के दौरान असम के सुदूर गाँवों में बसे, सरकारी करों की भीषण मार झेलते ग़रीब किसानों की मानसिक-शारीरिक यंत्रणा मार्मिक ढंग से उजागर हुई है। इसमें सन्देह नहीं कि यह उपन्यास हिन्दी पाठकों को भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के एक अल्पज्ञात अध्याय से रू-ब-रू कराएगा, बल्कि विविधता में एकता को अपनी राष्ट्रीय शक्ति मानने वाली भारतीय दृष्टि को और दृढ़ता प्रदान करेगा।

देबकू-जिंदू की यह प्रेम कहानी आज से महज सौ साल पहले की है। जैसा कि उपन्यासकार मुरारी शर्मा ने उपन्यास की पृष्ठभूमि स्पष्ट करते हुए लिखा है कि यह अनूठी प्रेम कहानी प्रथम विश्वयुद्ध के आस-पास की कहानी है। मण्डी रियासत के मुख्यालय से महज बीस-बाईस किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित नगरोटा गाँव से शुरू हुई यह प्रेम गाथा मण्डी नगर में सिमट कर रह गई। इस उपन्यास की विशेषता यह है कि इस प्रेमगाथा में वर्णित स्थानों व भवनों के अवशेषों से लेखक रूबरू हुआ है। बहुत से ऐसे व्यक्तियों से सम्पर्क साधने में सफल रहा है जो देबकू-जिंदू की इस प्रेम कहानी के तथ्यों की प्रामाणिकता को तस्दीक करते हैं। मुरारी शर्मा एक स्थापित वरिष्ठ कथाकार हैं, कहानी बुनने की कला में सिद्धहस्त। इन्होंने उपन्यास की पाठकीय रोचकता में कोई कमी नहीं आने दी है। सहज और सरल पात्रानुकूल भाषा-शैली उपन्यास की जीवंतता को बढ़ाने में कोई कसर नहीं छोड़ती। निश्चय ही लोक में प्रचलित एक अनूठी प्रेमकथा पर आधारित यह उपन्यास हिंदी साहित्य के लिए एक बड़ी उपलब्धि है। —विजय विशाल

‘चन्द्रशेखर आज़ाद : विवेकशील क्रान्तिकारी’ प्रत्येक भारतीय के लिए एक अनिवार्य पाठ्य-पुस्तक की तरह है। चन्द्रशेखर आज़ाद ने भारत के स्वाधीनता संग्राम में महानायक की भूमिका निभाई। सच्चे अर्थों में उनका तन-मन-धन भारतमाता की सेवा में समर्पित रहा। वे आज़ाद जिए और अन्त तक पुलिस के हाथ न आए। आज़ाद ने अपने साहसी व्यक्तित्व से आज़ादी के देशव्यापी अभियान को क्रान्ति की अद्भुत गरिमा प्रदान की। उनके व्यक्तित्व से प्रभावित होकर असंख्य युवाओं ने क्रान्ति के मार्ग पर क़दम बढ़ाए। सरदार भगत सिंह के साथ तो आज़ाद का विशेष लगाव था। इस पुस्तक के अनुसार, ‘भगत सिंह को आज़ाद केवल पार्टी के एक सदस्य के नाते ही नहीं देखते थे, बल्कि उन्हें अपने भाई की तरह, अपने परिवार के व्यक्ति की तरह मानते और अत्यधिक स्नेह करते थे।’ सत्य तो यह है कि आज़ाद को प्रत्येक क्रान्तिकारी में अपना ही रूप दिखाई देता था। प्रस्तुत पुस्तक अमर शहीद चन्द्रशेखर आज़ाद के जीवन-वृत्तान्त के साथ उनके युग की महान गाथा रेखांकित करती है। समकालीन सन्दर्भों में यह पुस्तक अत्यधिक महत्त्वपूर्ण हो उठती है।

यह पुस्तक ‘भगत सिंह को फांसी-1’ का ही दूसरा भाग है। इसमें लाहौर साज़िश केस के दौरान हुई 457 गवाहियों में से महत्त्वपूर्ण गवाहियों के तो पूर्ण विवरण दिए गए हैं, जबकि शेष गवाहियों के तथ्य-सार दिए गए हैं। शहीद सुखदेव ने इस दस्तावेज़ का बारीकी से अध्ययन किया था और उनके द्वारा अंकित की गई टिप्पणियों का उल्लेख सम्बन्धित गवाहियों के ब्योरे में किया गया है। यहाँ यह कहना भी प्रासंगिक है कि इस ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज़ को पहली बार प्रकाशित किया जा रहा है, जिसके द्वारा पाठकों को अनेक विचित्र तथ्य जानने का अवसर प्राप्त होगा। ज़िक्र योग्य है कि ये गवाहियाँ विशेष ट्रिब्यूनल के समक्ष 5 मई, 1930 से 26 अगस्त, 1930 तक हुई थीं जबकि इससे पूर्व 10 जुलाई, 1929 से 3 मई, 1930 तक मुक़दमा विशेष मजिस्ट्रेट की अदालत में चला था।

ग़ुलामी के दौरान पंजाब पर अकल्पनीय अत्याचार के प्रतिवाद में रचित तथा ब्रिटिश शासन द्वारा प्रतिब​न्धित और ज़ब्त रचनाएँ ‘जलियाँवाला बाग़ की कराहें’ पुस्तक जलियाँवाला बाग़ के नरसंहार की अतिशय वेदना और अंग्रेज़ी जुल्मों की व्यथा-कथा है जिसे हिन्दुस्तानियों ने अपनी आत्मा पर झेला, अपनी आँखों से देखा और साहित्यकारों ने अपनी क़लम से उकेरा। यह जनता का, जनता के द्वारा और जनता के लिए लिखा गया साहित्य है जो एक सदी तक अन्वेषकों की नज़रों से लगभग छिपा रहा। इन रचनाकारों ने अंग्रेज़ी राज की प्रताड़नाएँ सहते हुए औपनिवेशिक काल की त्रासद स्थितियों को कलमबद्ध किया। रचनाएँ मौखिक यात्रा करती हुईं जन-चेतना के उद्देश्य तक पहुँचती रहीं। पुस्तक में कुल नौ अध्याय हैं जिनमें जलियाँवाला बाग़ हत्याकांड के बाद रचित वे नाटक, कविताएँ, दोहे, ठुमरी, लावणी, क़व्वाली, ग़ज़ल आदि सम्मिलित हैं जो अलग-अलग पुस्तिकाओं में प्रकाशित हुईं। लगभग सभी विधाओं में रचित यह साहित्य जलियाँवाला बाग़ की पृष्ठभूमि से लेकर हर छोटी-बड़ी घटना, अंग्रेज़ों की क्रूरता, जुल्म और यातनाओं, लोगों की बेबसी, लाचारी, सामाजिक दशा-दुर्दशा का निर्भीक और वास्तविक विवरण प्रस्तुत करता है तो दूसरी तरफ़ साहस से उठ खड़े होने का आह्वान भी करता है। इनमें नृशंस हत्याओं के साथ-साथ हरे-भरे पेड़-पौधों की उखड़ी-जली छालों, घास चरती हुईं गाय-भैंसों का चरते-चरते मारे जाना, तोते, कोयल और मैना आदि पक्षियों तक का भी गोलियों से डरकर मरने का मार्मिक चित्रण है। इन रचनाओं की सत्यता पर कोई सन्देह इसलिए नहीं किया जा सकता कि आधिकारिक ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज़ों में भी किसी न किसी रूप में इनका ज़िक्र है और इतिहास की पुस्तकों में भी इन्हें प्राय: उसी रूप में अभिव्यक्त किया गया है।

हिंदी में रामकथा पर बहुत कुछ काम हुआ है। इसमें सर्वाधिक विस्तृत संपूर्ण सर्वेक्षण फादर कामिल बुल्के (रामकथा) का है। रामचरितमानस और आधुनिक भारतीय भाषाओं में रचित रामचरितों का तुलनात्मक अध्ययन कई विद्वानों ने किया है। अभी तक गुजराती, मराठी, बँगला, तेलुगु एवं तमिल आदि भाषाओं के प्रमुख रामचरित काव्यों और उनमें उपलब्ध रामकथा का तुलसी के मानस के साथ तुलनात्मक अध्ययन हो चुका है। परंतु बलरामदास की दांडी रामायण और मानस की रामकथा का तुलनात्मक अध्ययन कम ही हुआ है। प्रसिद्ध समालोचक एवं अनुवादक डॉ. शंकरलाल पुरोहित ने बलरामदास के राम-संबंधी दृष्टिकोण के मूल में जगन्नाथ और तुलसी के राम-संबंधी दर्शन के मूल में ब्रह्म की बात को ध्यान में रखकर यह पुस्तक लिखी है। रामकथा जहाँ भी, जिस रूप में भी कही गई है, उसके मूल में भक्तिधारा रही है। तुलसी और बलराम की रामकथा-धारा में अवगाहन कर हम इसी निष्कर्ष पर पहँुचते हैं और यह भक्तिधारा मानव मंगल तथा जनकल्याण के लिए एक विराट् फलक पर उत्कीर्ण हुई है।
