- Description: "माटी की मूरतें—श्रीरामवृक्ष बेनीपुरी जब कभी आप गाँव की ओर निकले होंगे, आपने देखा होगा, किसी बड़ या पीपल के पेड़ के नीचे, चबूतरे पर कुछ मूरतें रखी हैं—माटी की मूरतें! ये मूरतें—न इनमें कोई खूबसूरती है, न रंगीनी। किंतु इन कुरूप, बदशक्ल मूरतों में भी एक चीज है, शायद उस ओर हमारा ध्यान नहीं गया, वह है जिंदगी! ये माटी की ब नी हैं, माटी पर धरी हैं; इसीलिए जिंदगी के नजदीक हैं, जिंदगी से सराबोर हैं। ये देखती हैं, सुनती हैं, खुश होती हैं; शाप देती हैं, आशीर्वाद देती हैं। खुश हुईं—संतान मिली, अच्छी फसल मिली, यात्रा में सुख मिला, मुकदमे में जीत मिली। इनकी नाराजगी—बीमार पड़ गए, महामारी फैली, फसल पर ओले गिरे, घर में आग लग गई। ये मूरतें जिंदगी के नजदीक ही नहीं, जिंदगी में समाई हुई हैं। इसलिए जिंदगी के हर पुजारी का सिर इनके नजदीक आप-ही-आप झुक जाता है। ये कहानियाँ नहीं, जीवनियाँ हैं! ये चलते-फिरते आदमियों के शब्दचित्र हैं। सुप्रसिद्ध लेखक श्रीरामवृक्ष बेनीपुरी कहते हैं—‘मानता हूँ, कला ने उन पर पच्चीकारी की है; किंतु मैंने ऐसा नहीं होने दिया कि रंग-रंग में मूल रेखाएँ ही गायब हो जाएँ। मैं उसे अच्छा रसोइया नहीं समझता, जो इतना मसाला रख दे कि सब्जी का मूल स्वाद ही नष्ट हो जाए।’ जिंदगी के विविध रंगों को रेखांकित करतीं बेनीपुरीजी की सशक्त लेखनी से निकली रोचक, मार्मिक व संवेदनशील रेखाचित्र। "
