- Description: ‘धुनों की यात्रा’ हिन्दी फ़िल्म के संगीतकारों पर केन्द्रित ऐसी पहली मुकम्मिल और प्रामाणिक पुस्तक है, जिसमें सन् 1931 से लेकर 2005 तक के सभी संगीतकारों का श्लाघनीय समावेश किया गया है। संगीतकारों के विवरण और विश्लेषण के साथ उनकी सृजनात्मकता को सन्दर्भ सहित संगीत, समाज और जनाकांक्षाओं की प्रवृत्तियों से गुज़रते पहली बार इस पुस्तक के माध्यम से रेखांकित किया गया है। ‘धुनों की यात्रा’ में मात्र संगीत की सांख्यिकी को ही नहीं देखा गया है, वरन् संगीत रचनाओं के तत्कालीन जैविक और भौतिक अनुभूतियों के साथ ही संगीत के राग, ताल, प्रभाव, बारीकी और उसकी विशिष्टताओं के साथ सामाजिक, आर्थिक और राजनीतिक परिवेश, चेतना और उसके पुराने एवं नए ढहते और बनते रूपाकारों को उसके उल्लास, आवेश-आवेग, संघर्षों एवं संयोजनों को भी सूक्ष्मता के साथ विवेचित किया गया है। आम तौर पर फ़िल्मी संगीत के बारे में धारणा और प्रारम्भिक आकर्षण रोमान का ही होता है। ‘धुनों की यात्रा’ इस मिथकीय भ्रम को तोड़ती है। स्वातंत्र्य चेतना के प्रादुर्भाव, स्वतंत्रता आन्दोलन, रूढ़ सामाजिक विसंगतियों के प्रति अलगाव, विभिन्नता, बहुलता और बहुमत के प्रति लगाव, जनाकांक्षा की तीव्र अभिव्यक्ति, धर्म और बाज़ार के खंड-खंड पाखंड, युवा और युवतर चेतना की सशक्त वैश्विक दृष्टि, उनकी शैलियों और उनके समय की पड़ताल के सन्दर्भ में यह पुस्तक फ़िल्मी संगीत पर सर्वथा नए दृष्टि पथ का निर्माण करती है। स्वतंत्रता के पूर्व की चेतना से लेकर आज के भूमंडलीकरण के दौर तक, संगीत की सन्दर्भों के साथ बदलती प्रवृत्तियों की यह यात्रा आम पाठकों और संगीत रसिकों के लिए तो उपयोगी है ही; साथ ही भारतीय फ़िल्म संगीत के इतिहास, सांगीतिक धुनों की छवि और छाप, शैलियों की विविधता और विशिष्टता, राग और तालों के विवरण और विस्तार तथा फ़िल्म संगीत के क्रमिक विस्तार के तत्त्वों और सन्दर्भों के कारण फ़िल्म संगीत के विद्यार्थियों के लिए भी यह अनिवार्य सन्दर्भ पुस्तक के रूप में महत्त्वपूर्ण और उपयोगी होगी।

- Description: अब तक सिद्धों-नाथों और संतों के बीच दार्शनिक सम्बन्ध ही अधिक खोजा गया है। परन्तु इस पुस्तक में मैंने दार्शनिक पक्ष के साथ-साथ उनके सामाजिक पक्ष को भी अंत:सम्बद्धता में देखा है। सिद्धों-नाथों और संतों के बीच अनेक समान्तर अंत सूत्र होने के बावजूद उनके दर्शन और विचार, उनकी भाषा और उनके सामाजिक सरोकार में अंतर देखने को मिलता है। यह भेद और उनके बीच की समानता को इस पुस्तक में कथ्य, संवेदना,रूप आदि के अलग-अलग स्तरों पर देखा गया। इस पुस्तक को प्रकाशित कराने का मेरा विचार 'प्रति संस्कृति' के निर्माण में सिद्धों, नाथों एवं संतों के योगदान को देखकर हुआ। अपने समय में प्रचलित मान्यताओं से इन्होंने अलग राह ली। परन्तु उसमें से कुछ समय से आगे और कुछ समय के दबाव और बहाव में ही गति करती रहीं। तीनों सम्प्रदाय के कवियों ने समाज में व्याप्त अनेक बाह्य आडम्बरों पर प्रहार किया, उनसे प्रति प्रश्न किया। परन्तु स्त्री के प्रति प्रचलित नजरिये को सिर्फ सिद्ध कवि ही तोड़ पाए। आडम्बरों पर तीनों सम्प्रदाय के कवि मुखर हैं परन्तु नाथों एवं संतों ने स्त्री को 'पितृसत्तात्मक' समाज में घुटने के लिए छोड़ ही नहीं दिया बल्कि अपनी राह भी अलग कर लीं।
