- Description: Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar is considered the Messiah of the Dalits in India. In 1947, the Constituent Assembly appointed him as the chairman of the Drafting Committee constituted for drafting the Constitution for independent India. He played a key role in building the Constitution. He was born on 14 April 1891 at Mhow (near Indore), a small town of present Madhya Pradesh. He was the fourteenth child of Subedar Ramji and Bhimabai Sakpal. Being from the Maharcaste, he was treated as an ‘untouchable’. His father and his grandfather had served in the British Army. Good schools were arranged by the then government for the education of the children of all military personnel. Therefore, despite being from a low caste, he got a good education. In 1937, Dr Ambedkar introduced a bill to end the ‘Khoti’ practice of Mahars working as official slaves in the Konkan region. When India became independent in 1947, he adorned the post of the Minister of Law. He had made a clarion call—‘Lost rights are never regained by begging... but by relentless struggle’. For his remarkable work, he was posthumously awarded India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ in the year 1990.

- Description: यह किताब जीवन के दो पक्षों के बारे में है। एक स्त्री का और दूसरा उपनिवेश का। न इस उपनिवेश को समझना आसान है और न स्त्री को। अगर यह उपनिवेश वही होता जिससे बीसवीं सदी के मध्य में कई देशों और सभ्यताओं ने मुक्ति पाई थी तो शायद हम इसे राजनीतिक और आर्थिक परतंत्रता की संरचना करार दे सकते थे। अगर यह उपनिवेश वही होता जिससे लड़ने के लिए राष्ट्रवादी क्रान्तियाँ की गई थीं और आत्मनिर्भर अर्थव्यवस्था की अवधारणा पेश की गई थी तो शायद हम इसके ख़िलाफ़ उपनिवेशवाद विरोधी प्रत्यय की रचना आसानी से कर सकते थे। यह नवउपनिवेश के नाम से परिभाषित हो चुकी अन्तरराष्ट्रीय वित्तीय पूँजी की अप्रत्यक्ष हुकूमत भी नहीं है। यह तो अन्तराष्ट्रीय वित्तीय पूँजी, पितृसत्ता, इतरलिंगी यौन चुनाव और पुरुष-वर्चस्व की ज्ञानमीमांसा का उपनिवेश है जिसकी सीमाएँ मनोजगत से व्यवहार-जगत तक और राजसत्ता से परिवार तक फैली हैं। दूसरे पक्ष में होते हुए भी स्त्री पाले के दूसरी तरफ़ नहीं है। वह उपनिवेश के बीच में खड़ी है। उपनिवेश के ख़िलाफ़ संघर्ष उसका आत्म-संघर्ष भी है और यही स्थिति स्त्री को समझने की मुश्किलों के कारण बनी हुई है। स्त्री मुक्ति-कामना से छटपटा रही है लेकिन उपनिवेश के वर्चस्व से उसका मनोजगत आज भी आक्रान्त है। गुज़रे ज़मानों के उपनिवेशवाद विरोधी संघर्षों की तरह औरत की दुनिया के सिपहसालार उपनिवेश के साथ हाथ-भर का वह अन्तराल स्थापित नहीं कर पाए हैं जो इस लड़ाई में कामयाबी की पहली शर्त है। ‘उपनिवेश में स्त्री : मुक्ति-कामना की दस वार्ताएँ’ इस अन्तराल की स्थापना की दिशा में एक प्रयास है। ये वार्ताएँ कारख़ाने और दफ़्तर में काम करती हुई स्त्री, लिखती-रचती हुई स्त्री, प्रेम के द्वन्द्व में उलझी हुई स्त्री, मानवीय गरिमा की खोज में जुटी हुई स्त्री, बौद्धिक बनती हुई स्त्री और भाषा व विमर्श के संजाल में फँसी हुई स्त्री से सम्बन्धित हैं।
