- Description: वरिष्ठ कथाकार रूपसिंह चंदेल बहुमुखी प्रतिभा के धनी हैं। कहानी, उपन्यास, संस्मरण, आलोचना आदि गद्य की अनेक विधाओं में उन्होंने सृजन किया है। आलोचकों ने उन्हें लोकधर्मी कथाकार कहा है। युवा आलोचक डॉ. बिभा कुमारी के अनुसार, कथाकार रूपसिंह चंदेल की कथाओं में एक ओर मिट्टी की सोंधी खुशबू की अनुभूति प्राप्त होती है तो दूसरी ओर महानगरीय जीवन, टूटते संबंध, मशीनी जीवन, मनुष्य द्वारा मनुष्य का उपयोग किया जाना इत्यादि विसंगतियों का जीवंत और साक्षात् चित्रण है। वरिष्ठ आलोचक डॉ. पंकज साहा के अनुसार, विश्व के महान् लेखक अल्बेयर कामू के लेखन में हिंसा, अत्याचार एवं क्रूरता के खिलाफ जो स्वर हैं, वही स्वर चंदेलजी की रचनाओं में भी देखने को मिलते हैं। कामू की तरह चंदेलजी की भी सृजनात्मक पारदर्शिता अपने समय की मानवीय चेतना एवं उसकी समस्याओं का उद्घाटन करती है। युवा आलोचक उमाशंकर सिंह परमार मानते हैं कि रूपसिंह चंदेल अपनी कहानियों में जब यथार्थ का चित्र प्रस्तुत करते हैं, तब वे कतई आदर्शवादी नहीं रहते हैं, न ही वे सच को छिपानेवाले आदर्श से सम्मोहित हैं। यथार्थ यहाँ कटु यथार्थ के रूप में आता है और वह पाठक को झकझोरते हुए झूठी मान-मर्यादा, नैतिक पतन, मूल्यहीनता और शोषण में संलग्न लोकतंत्र के प्रहरियों पर प्रहार करता है।

- Description: "कलकत्ता के पास बैरकपुर की सैनिक छावनी में 34वीं बंगाल नेटिव इन्फैंट्री की पैदल सेना के सिपाही नंबर 1446 का नाम मंगल पांडे। भारत के पहले स्वातंत्र्य समर की ज्वाला सन् 1857 में उन्हीं के प्रयासों से धधकी। दरअसल 20 मार्च, 1857 को सैनिकों को नए प्रकार के कारतूस दिए गए। उन कारतूसों को मुँह में दाँतों से दबाकर खोला जाता था। वे गाय और सूअर की चरबी से चिकने किए गए थे, ताकि हिंदू और मुसलिम सैनिक धर्म के प्रति अनुराग छोड़कर धर्मविमुख हों। 29 मार्च को मंगल पांडे ने कारतूसों को मुँह से खोलने की उच्चाधिकारियों की आज्ञा मानने से इनकार कर दिया। सेना ने भी उनका साथ दिया। लेकिन ब्रिटिश उच्चाधिकारियों ने छलबलपूर्वक उन्हें बंदी बना लिया और आठ दिन बाद ही 8 अप्रैल, 1857 को उन्हें फाँसी दे दी। उनकी फाँसी की खबर ने देश भर में चिनगारी का काम किया और मेरठ छावनी से निकला विप्लव पूरे उत्तर भारत में फैल गया, जो स्वातंत्र्य समर के नाम से भी प्रसिद्ध हुआ। इसने मंगल पांडे का नाम इतिहास में स्वर्ण अक्षरों में दर्ज करा दिया। भारतीय क्रांतिकारी आंदोलन के एक प्रमुख हस्ताक्षर की प्रेरणाप्रद जीवनगाथा, जो अन्याय और दमन के प्रतिकार का मार्ग प्रशस्त करती है।"

Radhakrishnan, Paramhansa Yogananda, and Sri Aurobindo. Above all Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali, a collection of highly inspirational poems, devoted to the universal Lord, did leave an indelible imprint in my mind.
