- Description: रज़ा साहब जब 2010 के अन्त में अपने जीवन का आख़िरी चरण बिताने दिल्ली आ गए तो अपने साथ पुस्तकों, कैटलॉगों व अन्य काग़ज़ात का एक बड़ा संग्रह भी लाए। इस सारी सामग्री को एकत्र और व्यवस्थित कर रज़ा अभिलेखागार बनाया जा रहा है। जो काग़ज़ात हमें मिले उनमें रज़ा के कलाकार-मित्रों के कई पत्र भी मिले हैं। इनमें मक़बूल फिदा हुसेन, फ्रांसिस न्यूटन सूज़ा, के.एच. आरा, रामकुमार, कृष्ण खन्ना और तैयब मेहता शामिल हैं। उनके पत्राचार में निजी, कलात्मक, सामाजिक आदि कई विषयों पर लिखा गया है और उन्हें पढ़ने से एक मूर्धन्य कलाकार की संघर्ष-गाथा के कई पहलू समझ में आते हैं। उस परिवेश, उन मित्रों और उनके सम्बन्धों पर भी रोशनी पड़ती है जिन्होंने रज़ा को एक व्यक्ति और कलाकार के रूप में विकसित होने में भूमिका निभाई। यह एक तरह का अनौपचारिक रिकॉर्ड भी है जो हमें बताता है कि हमारे कुछ कला-मूर्धन्य अपने समय कैसे देख-समझ रहे थे, उनकी उत्सुकताएँ और बेचैनियाँ क्या थीं और एक विकासशील सौन्दर्य-बोध कैसे आकार ले रहा था। इस पत्राचार को क्रमश: कुछ पुस्तकों में प्रकाशित करने का इरादा है। इस सीरीज़ में पहली पुस्तक रज़ा और कृष्ण खन्ना के पत्राचार की है। सौभाग्य से इन दोनों ने एक-दूसरे के पत्र सँभालकर रखे। दो मूर्धन्य कलाकारों के बीच यह पत्र-संवाद बिरला है और इसे हिन्दी अनुवाद में प्रकाशित करते हमें प्रसन्नता है। —अशोक वाजपेयी
