- Description: हम दोनों भ्राता जब तक अपनी कुटी तक पहुँचते, तब तक अनर्थ घटित हो चुका था। हमारी कुटी रिक्त थी। भूमि पर धूलिकणों के मध्य अन्न एवं पात्र औंधे पड़े थे। 'सीते!' मैंने पुकारा, परंतु प्रत्युत्तर नहीं मिला। 'सीते!' मैंने पुन: पुकारा; पुन: प्रत्युत्तर में मुझे मौन ही प्राह्रश्वत हुआ। तत्पश्चात मैं भयभीत कुटी के प्रांगण में आया, जहाँ विशाल वटवृक्ष अवस्थित था। 'सीते! वृक्ष की आड़ में छिपकर मेरे साथ क्रीड़ा न करो। यह हास का समय नहीं है!' फिर भी मुझे कोई उत्तर नहीं मिला। अब मैं उसके पदचिन्हो को देखते हुए आगे बढऩे लगा। रथ के पहियों का चिह्नï मिलने के पश्चात् कोई अन्य चिह्नï नहीं मिला। मेरे धैर्य का सेतु टूट गया। 'देवताओ, गंधर्वो! क्या आपने भी नहीं देखा?' मैंने आकाश की ओर मुख करके भीषण गर्जना की। स्तब्ध पवनदेव ने अपना वेग मद्धिम कर दिया। उस तनावपूर्व घड़ी में देवताओं ने प्रश्नसूचक दृष्टि से गुरु बृहस्पति की ओर देखा। उन्होंने मंद-मंद मुसकराते हुए कहा, 'प्रभु लीला कर रहे हैं। आह! मेरा हृदय असंख्य शरों से बिंधा हुआ था। मैं लीला नहीं कर रहा था, वरन राम रूपी मानव काया में असहनीय वेदना का अनुभव कर रहा था। मैंने पुन: लक्ष्मण से कहा, अवश्य देखा होगा, इन वृक्षों ने, इन लताओं ने, इन पक्षियों ने, इन मृगों ने...। यह कहते हुए मैंने कदंब, अर्जुन, ककुभ, तिलक, अशोक, ताल, जामुन, कनेर, कटहल, अनार आदि अनेक वृक्षों से पूछा, क्या तुमने मेरी भार्या सीता को कहीं देखा है? परंतु वे सभी मौन रहे। —इसी पुस्तक से

- Description: "लौह पुरुष सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल का जन्म नडियाद, गुजरात में हुआ। उनकी शिक्षा मुख्यतः स्वाध्याय से ही हुई। लंदन जाकर उन्होंने बैरिस्टर की पढ़ाई पूरी की और वापस आकर गुजरात के अहमदाबाद में वकालत करने लगे। महात्मा गांधी के विचारों से प्रेरित होकर वे भारत के स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन से पूरी तरह जुड़ गए। स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में सरदार पटेल का सबसे पहला और बड़ा योगदान खेड़ा आंदोलन में रहा। बारदोली में सशक्त सत्याग्रह करने के लिए ही उन्हें ‘सरदार’ कहा जाने लगा। सरदार पटेल को 1937 तक दो बार कांग्रेस का सभापति बनने का गौरव प्राप्त हुआ। आजादी के बाद भारत के राजनीतिक एकीकरण में उनके महान् योगदान के लिए इतिहास उन्हें सदैव स्मरण रखेगा। अपनी दृढ़ता के कारण वे ‘लौह पुरुष’ कहलाए। सरदार पटेल स्वतंत्र भारत के उप-प्रधानमंत्री होने के साथ प्रथम गृह, सूचना तथा रियासत विभाग के मंत्री भी थे। उनकी महानतम देन है 562 छोटी-बड़ी रियासतों का भारतीय संघ में विलय करना। वे नवीन भारत के निर्माता, राष्ट्रीय एकता के बेजोड़ शिल्पी और भारतीय जनमानस अर्थात् किसान की आत्मा थे। अपने रणनीतिक कौशल, राजनीतिक दक्षता और अदम्य इच्छा-शक्ति के बल पर भारत को एक नई पहचान देनेवाले समर्पित इतिहास-पुरुष की प्रेरणाप्रद जीवनी।
