- Description: ‘Now It Can Be Told’ is the story of deception and glory which some political leaders in India surrounded themselves with to cover their erroneous policy decisions and acts of omission and commission, which were responsible for plunging Bengal and Punjab into troubled waters. After Partition, Hindus of Punjab in general and Sikhs in particular have complained about their problems remaining unaddressed; they blame the leaders for throwing them to the wolves in their quest for grabbing power. The Sikhs have suffered the most grievously. From being rulers of Punjab that spanned from Delhi to Khyber Pass, a little more than a century ago; they have for the past two years become wanderers. Unable to call a single district of Punjab as their home. Can there be a single instance cited, where a strong and large religious community like the Sikhs lost the Holiest of its places to others? This book is a faithful account of day-to-day occurrences in Lahore and other parts of Punjab during the critical period of 1947 when the fate of India was being decided by its leaders and at a time when Punjabi Sikhs and Hindus underwent untold miseries and hardship. This book should be treated more as a souvenir of Partition than as a treatise on history. This book is being reproduced without any editing or changes. It is an important document for understanding the circumstances and facts during Partition. Only the lot of the refugees is unenviable. The glow of freedom is certainly not found on their faces. They have lost their everything; their homes and hearths, their kith and kin, their properties, moveable and immovable, their religious shrines and sacred places hallowed by the blood of their martyrs and their accustomed ways of life and living. With their scanty resources dwindling fast, with the snail-like pace of rehabilitation and with the blasted career of their children staring them in the face, they are living in the daily dread of worse and worse things to come. The objective of writing this book is to rouse the conscience of the country, giving it a glimpse of the hell which the prosperous and proud people of North-West Pakistan had to suffer in those critical days and to appeal to the leaders to learn from their past mistakes and take determined and suitable measures in hand to undo the evil effects of the greatest ‘wrong’ of history.

Their peculiar belief system, worship of myriad spirits, animals, plants, hills, rivers and mountains compound the mystery. Even today, their world view, lifestyle, ritual and value system remain beyond the grasp of the mainstream society. Tribes are often dismissed as just animists, without a philosophy. Scholars so far have been dwelling mostly on the anthropological aspects of the tribes. This book is the first systematic effort to deal with the tribes from the point of view of philosophy. The work goes beyond what appears about the tribes on the surface level, and delves into their world of cosmology, metaphysics, aesthetics, epistemology and eschatology, man-animal-nature relations, gods, spirits, body and soul. Though the book is a work of philosophy, it chooses to avoid dry and cumbersome _ philosophical process; but in the final analysis succeeds to bring forth the philosophy of the tribal community in a manner appealing even to the general readers. A large number of legends and folktales have been interpreted philosophically in order to give sensible meaning to them vis-a-vis Vedic philosophy and Christian philosophy; and it is therefore that the book promises to be an exotic journey into the world of the tribes.

I started writing regularly tracking the journey of COVID-19, its fall out and the transformation in our lives as a sequel and sharing on electronic media. Unconsciously my style of writing became prose in poetry, generally concluding with befitting couplets of Urdu poetry. | was buoyed by the inspiring comments of my friends, who genuinely prompted me to consoli- date my thoughts and take it to the next level. This is how exactly my book project took off. In my write-ups, I quite often venture into the coveted realms of great thinkers, philosophers, saints and Yogis, who have spent their lifetimes to understand the enigmatic human life, a beautiful gift of God, yet for average mortals like me, remains a labyrinth, a conundrum. Nevertheless I could peep into some aspects, and the veil did lift a bit, going through treasured writings of the extraordi- nary authors and exalted souls like Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Paramhansa Yogananda, and Sri Aurobindo. Above all Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali, a collection of highly inspirational poems, devoted to the universal Lord, did leave an indelible imprint in my mind.

लोक का जो प्रत्यक्ष जीवन है, उसको जाने बिना हम मानव जीवन को पूरी तरह नहीं समझ सकते। कारण भारतीय संस्कृति में सब भूतों में व्याप्त एक अन्तर्यामी अध्यात्म तत्त्व को जानने पर अधिक बल दिया गया है। हमारी संस्कृति उन समस्त रूपों का समुदाय है जिनकी सृष्टि ही मानवीय प्रयत्नों में यहाँ की गई है। उनकी उदात्त प्रेरणाओं को लेकर ही हमें आगे बढ़ना होगा। स्थूल जीवन में संस्कृति की अभिव्यक्ति ‘कला' को जन्म देती है। कला का सम्बन्ध जीवन के मूर्त रूप से है। कला मानवीय जीवन की अनिवार्य आवश्यकता है। वह कुछ व्यक्तियों के विलास साधन के लिए नहीं होती। वह शिक्षण, आनन्द और अध्यात्म साधना के उद्देश्य से आगे बढ़ती है। इसी से जहाँ जो सौन्दर्य की परम्परा बची है, उसे सहानुभूति के साथ समझ कर पुन: विकसित करना होगा। भारतीय कला न केवल रूप विधान की दृष्टि से समृद्ध है, वरन् उसकी शब्दावली भी अत्यन्त विकसित है। समय रहते कला की पारिभाषिक शब्दावली की रक्षा करना भी हमारा आवश्यक कर्त्तव्य है।
अन्त में यह कहा जा सकता है कि पूर्व मानव के जीवन में जो महत्त्व धर्म और अध्यात्म का था, वही अपने वाले युग में कला और संस्कृति को प्राप्त होगा।

- Description: राष्ट्रीय संदर्भ में तो आज गांधी की शिक्षाओं तथा प्रयोगों की जरूरत काफी बढ़ गई है। खेद की बात यह है कि जिस देश के महान् मनीषी ने विश्व को अनेक उच्च विचार दिए, विश्व मानवता को संकटों से मुक्ति का मार्ग बताया, उसी के महान् भारत में स्वाभिमान, राष्ट्रीयता, ईमानदारी, कर्तव्यनिष्ठा, सहनशीलता आदि गुणों का ह्रास हो रहा है और देश के चारों तरफ समस्याओं के काले बादल छाने लगे हैं। हमें आज की परिस्थितियों में यह देखकर निश्चित रूप से प्रसन्नता हुई है कि देश और विदेश सभी जगह लोगों ने कुछ हद तक गांधी के रास्ते पर चलना शुरू कर दिया है और वह दिन अब अधिक दूर नहीं जब दुनिया का हर व्यक्ति गांधीवादी पद्धति का अवलंबन शुरू कर दे। ऐसा होगा, तभी मानवता को जीवित रखा जा सकता है। अमेरिका, इंग्लैंड, पश्चिम जर्मनी, जापान और अन्य दूसरे विकसित देशों के लोग आज गांधी द्वारा बताए गए अहिंसात्मक प्रतिरोध के द्वारा अपनी- अपनी सरकारों पर दवाब डाल रहे हैं कि वे मानवता का संहार करनेवाले हथियारों पर प्रतिबंध संबंधी बातचीत में तेजी लाएँ। महात्मा गांधी राजनीतिक, सामाजिक और आर्थिक कार्यों में अंतर करने को तैयार नहीं थे। वे मानते थे कि मनुष्य के सभी कार्य एवं समस्याएँ मूल रूप में नैतिक हैं, अत: उनका समाधान भी नैतिक उपायों से ही संभव है। गांधी के सपनों का भारत में विद्वान् लेखक ने गांधीजी के सिद्धांतों और जीवन-मूल्यों के माध्यम से यह बताने का प्रयास किया है कि हम सब अगर गांधीजी के बताए रास्ते पर चलें तो एक सशक्त, लोककल्याणकारी और गांधीजी के सपनों के भारत का निर्माण कर सकते हैं। आओ, हम सब भारतवासी इस पुनीत कार्य में भागीदार बनें ।
