- Description: भारत केवल भौगोलिक रचना या भूखंड मात्र नहीं है, न तो भारतबोध मात्र इतिहास से बनता है । वस्तुत: भारतबोध एक सनातनबोध की प्रक्रिया है, जो नित्य और निरंतर, इन दोनों के साथ गुंफित होता है। नित्यता से शाश्वत मूल्य आते हैं तो निरंतरता से समय के साथ उनका समंजन होता है। भारतबोध राष्ट्रीयता है, संस्कृति है और धर्म भी है। भारतबोध पद से जो अर्थ अभिहित होता है--वह सनातन और निरंतर सभ्यता की जीवन-प्रणाली की अभिव्यंजना है। भारतीयता का विचार, भारतबोध का प्रश्न इस रूप में समझा जा सकता है कि यह कृतज्ञता की संस्कृति है और कृतज्ञता का प्रारंभ इस मान्यता, इस विश्वास के साथ होता है कि हम कुछ ऋणों के साथ उत्पन्न हुए हैं । हमने इस धरती में जन्म लेने के साथ ही समाज का, धरती का, परिवार का, शिक्षकों का, आचार्यों का ऋण प्राप्त किया है और वास्तविक मुक्ति हमें तब होगी, जब हम इन ऋणों से मुक्त होंगे; और इससे ऋण मुक्ति का तरीका इतना ही है कि हमें मनुष्य बनना है; न तो यह सभ्य बनने की प्रणाली है और न ही यह जीनियस बनने की । भारत धर्म भी है और यह धर्म उपासना-पंथों से परे भी । यह धर्म मानवीय मूल्यों का पुंज है। भारतबोध की दृष्टि से इस पुस्तक में कुछ सूत्रों की चर्चा है और कुछ सूत्रों का आज के परिप्रेक्ष्य में पल्ल्वन भी है। समकाल के भारत की भूमिका को उभारने की कोशिश की गई है और समकाल के भारत के लिए, भारत में जन्म लिये हुए लोगों को किस प्रकार की जीवन प्रणाली को स्वीकार करना है; किस मूल्य-व्यवस्था को स्वीकार करना है, इस पर किंचित् विवेचन किया गया है.

- Description: आज से लगभग 2300 वर्ष पहले मगध पर घनानंद नामक एक कुटिल और क्रूर शासक का राज्य था। वह बात-बात पर लोगों को फाँसी दे देता था। ऐसे निरंकुश शासक ने जब चाणक्य नाम के एक विद्वान् का अपमान किया तो उसने नंद को समूल नष्ट करने का प्रण ले लिया। बालक चंद्रगुप्त भी नंद का सताया हुआ था, वह भी येन-केन-प्रकारेण नंद से प्रतिशोध लेना चाहता था। अनायास ही चाणक्य और चंद्रगुप्त की भेंट हो गई। चाणक्य ने चंद्रगुप्त को कडे़ अनुशासन में रखकर अस्त्र-शस्त्र के ज्ञान के साथ राजनीति की शिक्षा भी दी। अनुकूल अवसर मिलते ही चंद्रगुप्त ने घनानंद पर हमला कर दिया और उसका समूल नाश करके मौर्य साम्राज्य की स्थापना की। मौर्य साम्राज्य पूर्व में बंगाल की खाड़ी से पश्चिम में अरब सागर तक फैला था। उत्तर में चंद्रगुप्त के राज्य की सीमा दक्षिणी अफगानिस्तान और ईरान तक फैली थी। उसने वृहद् भारत पर एकच्छत्र अनुकरणीय राज्य किया। जीवन के उत्तरार्ध में अपने पुत्र बिंदुसार को राज्य सौंपकर वह कर्नाटक में श्रवणबेलगोला चला गया और एक भिक्षुक के रूप में अपना जीवन बिताया। चंद्रगुप्त मौर्य का निर्लिप्त जीवन सचमुच अनुकरणीय है।
