The history of India, so far, has not focused on a civilizational Bharatiya perspective, emphasizing a geo-political history based on the Nation-state paradigm, rather than a geo-cultural practice based on India’s civilizational antiquity. Until recently, history had been viewed from various ideological lenses- Colonial, Nationalist, Marxist, Subaltern, soon and so forth. These schools have been immensely successful not only in tapping the immense range of sources and exploring the various regions and sub-regions across the subcontinent, but have also contributed towards bringing to light important perspectives concerning the political, economic, social and cultural developments in the history of India from the 8th to the 14th centuries. While tapping into these schools has its obvious advantages, in that they have focused on partial aspects of the grand march of the civilization’s history, a lot still needs to be done.

- Description: ‘लौह पुरुष’ के नाम से विख्यात सरदार पटेल को भारत के गृह मंत्री के रूप में अपने कार्यकाल के दौरान कश्मीर के संवेदनशील मामले को सुलझाने में कई गंभीर मुश्किलों का सामना करना पड़ा था। उनका मानना था कि कश्मीर मामले को संयुक्त राष्ट्र में नहीं ले जाना चाहिए था। वास्तव में संयुक्त राष्ट्र में ले जाने से पहले ही इस मामले को भारत के हित में सुलझाया जा सकता था। हैदराबाद रियासत के संबंध में सरदार पटले समझौते के लिए भी तैयार नहीं थे। बाद में लॉर्ड माउंटबेटन के आग्रह पर ही वह 20 नवंबर, 1947 को निजाम द्वारा बाह्य मामले तथा रक्षा एवं संचार मामले भारत सरकार को सौंपे जाने की बात पर सहमत हुए। हैदराबाद के भारत में विलय के प्रस्ताव को निजाम द्वारा अस्वीकार कर दिए जाने पर अंततः वहाँ सैनिक अभियान का नेतृत्व करने के लिए सरदार पटेल ने जनरल जे.एन. चौधरी को नियुक्त करते हुए शीघ्रातिशीघ्र काररवाई पूरी करने का निर्देश दिया। अंततः 13 सितंबर, 1948 को भारतीय सैनिक हैदराबाद पहुँच गए और सप्ताह भर में ही हैदराबाद का भारत में विधिवत् विलय कर लिया गया। प्रस्तुत पुस्तक में कश्मीर और हैदराबाद के भारत में विलय की राह में आई कठिनाइयों और उन्हें दूर करने में सरदार पटेल की अदम्य इच्छाशक्ति पर प्रामाणिक ढंग से प्रकाश डाला गया है।

उनका कहना है कि अत्याचार के शिकार मनुष्यों में स्त्रियाँ ही एकमात्र ऐसा समूह हैं, जो अत्यन्त घनिष्ठ रूप में अपने अत्याचारियों के साथ वास करता है। पश्चिम की स्त्रियों ने अपने लिए एक घर का इन्तज़ाम कर लिया है, तो समाज उन्हें अब कोई डर नहीं दिखाता, लेकिन भारतवर्ष की स्त्रियों को समाज लाल सुर्ख़ आँखों से ऐसे घूर रहा है कि वे डर के मारे दुबकी हुई हैं।
समलैंगिकता के विषय में उनका कहना है कि जो लोग इस समुदाय की सामाजिक स्वीकृति का समर्थन नहीं करते, उनके अधिकारों के पक्ष में खड़े नहीं होते, उन्हें मानवाधिकारों का पक्षधर भी नहीं कहा जा सकता, और न ही प्रगतिशील। वे ज़ोर देकर कहती हैं कि समकामी या समलैंगिक होना सिर्फ़ यौन-सम्बन्धों का मसला नहीं है, यह प्रेम का सम्बन्ध है।
स्त्रियों से जुड़े कई अन्य सामाजिक और क़ानूनी पहलुओं पर उन्होंने इसी तरह दो टूक विचार किया है।
