‘आधुनिक विविध कला शब्दसागर’ तेईस आधुनिक सर्जनात्मक और व्यावसायिक कलाओं के सामान्य प्रचलित और महत्त्वपूर्ण शब्दों का संग्रह है। इसमें चित्रकला, मूर्तिकला, संगीत, नृत्य, नाटक, काव्य, फैशन, पाककला, गृहसज्जा, फोटोग्राफी, विज्ञान, फिल्म, टेलीविजन, संग्रहालय विज्ञान, पुरातत्त्व, अभिलेख, डिजाइन, शिल्प, सौन्दर्यशास्त्र, कला-समीक्षा, छापाकला आदि कलाओं से सम्बन्धित शब्द शामिल हैं। कोश के आरम्भिक पृष्ठों में सभी कला विषयों के शब्दों को अंग्रेजी के वर्णक्रमानुसार प्रस्तुत किया गया है, जिसमें उसका वर्गीकरण, उच्चारण, हिन्दी पर्याय तथा साधारण शब्दों में उसकी सामान्य व्याख्या प्रस्तुत की गई है। अनेक कम प्रचलित किन्तु महत्त्वपूर्ण शब्दों के साथ कई अन्य तत्सम्बन्धित शब्दों के भी अंग्रेजी समानार्थी शब्द दिये गए हैं ताकि पाठक सहजता से कोश में प्रयुक्त शब्दों के भाव समझ सकें। शब्दों के शुद्ध उच्चारण के सम्बन्ध में सदैव मतभेद रहा है, मुख्यतः विदेशी भाषाओं के सन्दर्भ में। इस समस्या के निदान के लिए इसमें विदेशी शब्दों के शुद्ध उच्चारण में एक व्यावहारिक समझौता किया गया है, जैसे— Colour के वास्तविक उच्चारण ‘कलअॅ’ के स्थान पर ‘कलर’ ही रखा है, इस प्रकार ‘अ’, (R) ‘र’ की ध्वनि से समझौता किया गया है। उसी तरह Art के शुद्ध उच्चारण में ‘आट’ के स्थान पर ‘आर्ट’ स्वीकारा है। नाटक के एक शब्द ‘Daddy’ के लिए ‘पितातुल्य’ प्रतिष्ठित ‘नाट्यकर्मी’ के साथ उर्दू के शब्द ‘उम्रदराज फनकार’ को भी लिया गया है। अंग्रेजी शब्दों के हिन्दी सुबोध पर्यायों के लिए विभिन्न भारतीय भाषाओं के बोलचाल से जुड़े अनेक शब्दों को स्वीकार किया गया है। जैसे—‘Dedicated Artist’ के लिए ‘जुझारू कलाकार’, ‘व्रती कलाकार’ आदि। शब्दों के अधिकाधिक पर्याय देने के प्रयास में उनके भावार्थ से जुड़े भाव को प्राथमिकता दी गई है। जैसे Design शब्द के 18 तो Aesthetics के 9 पर्याय दिये गए हैं। यह कोश कभी-कभार कला के किसी शब्द की जानकारी मात्र देने वाला कोश नहीं है, कला के विद्यार्थियों, कला प्रेमियों और जिज्ञासुओं के लिए महत्त्वपूर्ण पाठ है। भारत में बहुउपयोगी कलाओं के समग्र कोश की रचना का यह सम्भवतः पहला प्रयास है, अतः इसमें अनेक त्रुटियों और कमियाँ रह गई होंगी। मुझे आशा है कि सुधी-पाठक इसे और समृद्ध करने के लिए अपने बहुमूल्य सुझावों से हमें अवगत करायेंगे।

शहर से कुछ दूर सूखी-बंजर जमीन पर अनेक झुग्गियाँ थीं। उनमें रहने वाले लोग मेहनत-मजूरी कर अपनी गुजर-बसर करते। गृहणियाँ भी अपनी घिसी-पिटी दिनचर्या से निपट आपस में गप्प-शप्प करतीं। उनके बच्चे भी अगल-बगल में बैठते या इधर-उधर खेलते। नंग-धड़ंग या फटे-पुराने कपड़ों में लिपटे हुए बच्चों में से किसी के हाथ में रूखी-सूखी रोटी का टुकड़ा होता व किसी के हाथ में कोई अन्य चीज। बच्चे जब आपस में खेलेंगे तो झगड़ा भी होगा और फिर यदि उनमें झगड़ा हुआ तो बड़े कोई चुप थोड़ा ही रहेंगे अर्थात् बड़ों में भी तू-तू मैं-मैं हो ही जानी है। कई बार तो यह क्लेश इतना बढ़ जाता कि मर्द जब घर आते तो उन्हें भी इसमें घसीट लिया जाता। अतः उनका प्रत्येक दिन ऐसे ही बीत रहा था, पर मजे की बात कि उनको अपने जीवन के इस ढाँचे से कोई शिकायत न थी। जिस स्‍थान पर यह बस्ती थी, वहीं एक सड़क भी थी। उस सड़क से प्रतिदिन एक लड़की साईकल चलाती हुई निकलती और उसकी साईकल के आगे एक टोकरी लगी हुई थी, जिसमें कुछ पुस्तकें होतीं। साईकल सवार लड़की का, उधर से आने-जाने का एक निश्चित समय था। वह प्रतिदिन उस बस्ती के लोगों को देखती तो सोचने लगती कि कैसा जीवन है इन लोगों का? इनको इस बात की समझ ही नहीं कि मनुष्य जीवन तो अनमोल है, पर ये किस प्रकार की जिंदगी जी रहे हैं? उस बस्ती के लोग भी उस लड़की को जब इधर से निकलते देखते तो सोचते कि कितनी अच्छी लगती है यह बच्ची? —इसी पुस्तक से

Indian English literature began as an interesting by-product of an eventful encounter in the late eighteenth cntury between a vigorous and enterprising Britain and a stagnant and chaotic India, and is now nealy twi hundred years old. It is literature written originally in English by authors Indian by birth, ancestry or nationality. It is no part of English literature any more than American literature or Australian lterature can be said to be branch of British literature. It is legitimatly a part of Indian literature, since its differntia is the expression in it of an Indian ethos.

Marathi has an unbroken literary tradition of over eight centuries, divided conveniently into two distinct periods, classical and modern. The Classical period spans six centuries, remarkable for poetry, devotional and heroic. Jnandev, Namdev, Eknath, Tukaram and Ramdas have become household names throughout India. While Virasaiva, Jain, and Muslim poets have enriched the secular and spiritual content, wandering minstrels have sung heroic ballads. New forms of literature have flowered from the nineteenth century under the impact of English education and western thought. The Chiplunkar, Apte, Anil Despande, Phadke, Khandekar, Mardhekar, Rege and Gadgil. Tracing the earliest reference to Maharashtra in a rock inscription of the fourth century, the history concludes with the formation of the state in 1960.
