‘कड़ियाँ’ भीष्म साहनी का महत्त्वपूर्ण उपन्यास है। इसकी विषयवस्तु एक ऐसे मध्यवर्गीय परिवार से सम्बन्ध रखती है जो परम्परागत संस्कारों में जकड़ा हुआ है, लेकिन इसका मुख्य कथानक दाम्पत्य जीवन की कड़वाहट और स्त्री की असहाय स्थिति से सम्बन्धित है। एक तरफ़ रूढ़ नैतिक मान्यताएँ हैं जो पति-पत्नी के सम्बन्धों में दरार पैदा कर देती हैं और दूसरी तरफ़ पत्नी की आर्थिक परनिर्भरता है जिसके कारण उसे अनेक मानसिक यंत्रणाओं से गुज़रना पड़ता है।
पुरुष प्रधान समाज में स्त्री के हिस्से आनेवाली पीड़ाओं और अत्याचारों का अंकन इस उपन्यास में बहुत बारीकी से किया गया है। तनाव और विघटन के क्षणों को उकेरने में लेखक ने विशेष कौशल का परिचय दिया है।

- Description: ಮೂಲ ಲೇಖಕರು : ಸೈರಸ್ ಮಿಸ್ತ್ರಿ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ : ಬಿ.ಆರ್.ಜಯರಾಮರಾಜೇ ಅರಸ್ ನಾಟಕ, ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ನಂಟಿನ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕತೆಗಾರನಾಗಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಕೃಷಿ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಸೈರಸ್ ಮಿಸ್ತ್ರಿ ಅವರ ‘ಕ್ರಾನಿಕಲ್ ಆಫ್ ಎ ಕಾರ್ಪ್ಸ್ ಬೇರರ್’ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಅನುವಾದ ಈ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ. 2013ನೇ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಈ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಬಿ.ಆರ್.ಜಯರಾಮರಾಜೇ ಅರಸ್ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಪುಟ ತಿರುವಿದಂತೆ ಕಥೆಯು ಬಾಂಬೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 1942ನೇ ಇಸವಿಯ ವರ್ತಮಾನ ಕಾಲದಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಿ ಭೂತಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಾ ಅಪೂರ್ಣ ಭವಿಷ್ಯ ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಮುನ್ನಡೆದಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಎಲ್ಚಿ’ (ಫಿರೋಜ್ ಎಲ್ಚಿದಾನ) ಕಥಾನಾಯಕ. ಪಾರ್ಸಿ ಉಪಜಾತಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಅಸ್ಪೃಶ್ಯರಾದ ಹೆಣಹೊರುವವರ ಬದುಕಿನ ವೃತ್ತಾಂತ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಫಿರೋಜ್ ಸಮಾಜದ ಪ್ರಬಲ ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಪುರೋಹಿತರೊಬ್ಬನ ಮಗ. ‘ಖಾಂಧಿಯಾ’ (ಹೆಣ ಹೊರುವವರು) ಜಾತಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಸೆಪಿಡೆಹ್ (ಸೆಪ್ಪಿ) ಎಂಬುವವಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಹೆಣ ಹೊರುವ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಜೊತೆಯೇ ಬದುಕಬೇಕು ಎನ್ನುವ ಸೆಪ್ಪಿ ತಂದೆಯ ಷರತ್ತಿಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿ ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ತಂದೆ, ತಾಯಿ, ಸಮುದಾಯವನ್ನೂ ತೊರೆದು ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮಗಳ ಜನನದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೆಪ್ಪಿ ನಿಧನ, ಎಲ್ಚಿ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ತಿರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆತ, ಈ ನೋವಿನಲ್ಲೂ, ತುಳಿತಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಖಾಂಧಿಯಾ ಜನರ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ತರುವತ್ತ ಪಾರ್ಸಿ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ದಂಗೆಯನ್ನೂ ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ದ್ವಿತೀಯಾರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಥೆಯ ಈ ನಿರೂಪಣೆ ಭಾರತದ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಸಂಗ್ರಾಮದ ಘಟನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನಾಂತರವಾಗಿ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಉಸಿರು ಬಿಗಿಹಿಡಿದು ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಓದುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪಾರ್ಸಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯು ಕೃತಿಯುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಉಸಿರಾಡಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಸತನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕೃತಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.

Here's one of the most powerful book I bought from Rachnaye till date. The book Mukti by Sanjay Sharma brings up the important issue of female rape, which is disregarded by the relevant authorities, leading some victims to seek legal action on their own. In order to obtain justice, survivors address the problem's core causes rather than merely pounding on the doors of the legal system, ie. to kill their rapist. What do you think, is that justifiable? The book exposes the despicable individuals that serve in the corrupt Indian government system and meanwhile showcasing the beauty of friendship, community and togetherness. The powerful women in the novel are the symbols of bravery, who stood up for themselves, as well as their community. The story of Mukti follows two timelines: Bhiku's present, when an innocent youngster was changed into a cold-hearted person by the very influence of his own parents, where the rapist is slain and the women implicated are prosecuted for the crime committed. Do our current actions are justified by our childhood traumas? How does a child's upbringing affect him till his adolescence? Author has created a compelling narrative that causes us to reflect on every decision made.
